Juan Carlos Padilla

Senior Counsel, Transportadora de Gas Internacional S.A. ESP (TGI S.A.)

Juan Carlos Padilla is an attorney licensed to practice law in Colombia, South America. He holds a master’s degree in International Business Law (LL.M) from ESADE University Barcelona (Spain) and a postgraduate degree in Mining and Petroleum Law from the Universidad Externado de Colombia.

Mr. Padilla works for the largest natural gas transportation company in Colombia (Transportadora de Gas Internacional S.A. ESP), where he is the lead legal counsel for an LNG project. In the past, Mr. Padilla has worked at Ecopetrol, the Colombian state-owned oil & gas company and at Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero & Uría as an associate attorney for energy and natural resources. As a result, his specialization is in advising on issues of natural gas supply and transportation contracts as well as on legal issues that may arise throughout the natural gas production, transportation, and commercialization chain in Colombia. In addition, Mr. Padilla also consults on regulatory issues for natural gas as a public Colombian utility as well as international oil & gas transactions, including exports/imports of natural gas, crude oil, and petroleum products. 

Furthermore, Juan Carlos is a professor at the Universidad Externado de Colombia (a private university in Bogotá), teaching short courses related to Colombian natural gas regulation.

Carlos Machado

Carlos Machado has over 25 years of experience across the natural gas spectrum including positions in upstream, midstream and marketing, mostly focused on business development, strategy, deal structuring, contract negotiations, and financing.

Mr. Machado started his energy career in banking (project finance US and international), then moved into mid-stream project development and then upstream with a focus on natural gas in Colombia. He has been the Chief Administrative Officer (Country Manager) of Lewis Energy Colombia since 2015.

Mr. Machado has a Bachelors in architecture and construction management from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and a Msc in public administration and finance from Columbia University (Fulbright Scholar).

Marianna Boza (Moderator)

Director, Brigard Urrutia

Marianna Boza is a transnational attorney authorized to practice in Venezuela and Colombia. She is a Director at Brigard Urrutia and is Head of Mining and O&G. In her capacity, Marianna advises clients around the world on the operations and corporate transactions of upstream, midstream, or downstream energy companies.  She has substantial experience advising companies in the oil & gas and petrochemical sectors. She has been involved in major upstream, midstream, and downstream projects in Latin America, advising in the negotiation and drafting of the relevant contracts. Marianna has advised clients in the negotiation, creation, and financing of joint ventures for the development of hydrocarbons and petrochemical activities and the processing of gas in Venezuela and Colombia.

Marianna was the senior legal counsel at Shell Venezuela, actively participating in the downstream business to produce oil by-products. Additionally, she was an in-house attorney in secondment for the legal department of Repsol and ChevronTexaco in Venezuela, where she provided business-focused advice and gained on-site experience.

Marianna actively participates in several binational chambers of commerce and associations of industry and trade; she is currently the vice president of the Board of Directors of the Colombian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the director of the Extractive Committee of the Colombian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.  Marianna is also a member of the Latin America Regional Executive Committee Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).
